Getting the Most Out of Your Fragrance

Getting the Most Out of Your Fragrance

So, you bought it, now what…

We want to make sure that you get the most out of one of the best investments you can make for your daily self care regimen - your fragrance.

You may think wearing fragrances is just a matter of spraying them on, but there is more to consider if you want your fragrance to last.

One of the best compliments you can get is, “What are you wearing?”  To help ensure you turn heads, here are a few tips, tricks, and recommendations that can help your fragrance perform its best.

Apply to Pulse Points

  • While you are free to apply perfume wherever you like, we suggest the following:
    • The inside of your wrists and crease of your arms
    • Behind the ears
    • On your neck
    • Behind your knees
    • Your ankles
    • Your chest
  • The warmth from your skin will help project the scent.

Lightly mist after showering

  • While damp from your shower, apply a light mist of fragrance, use a moisturizer of your choice (e.g., butter, body balm, cream) and mist more fragrance afterwards.

It’s all about the butters baby

  • Moisturizers with a thicker consistency will help fragrance last longer on your body. So, grab your favorite unscented body butter, balm, or cream and hydrate/prime your skin!
  • Petroleum jelly is another great alternative.  Simply rub some petroleum jelly on your chosen pulse points and spray your fragrance.
  • Body oils are also an option as well!
  • Using an unscented moisturizer will help the fragrance keep its natural essence. If you want to add a little dazzle to your fragrance, you can use a scented body butter/body oil.

Spray your clothes

  • As we go about our day, our skin can get oily or sweaty, decreasing the potency of our fragrance. Fabrics can help hold fragrances a bit longer throughout the day.

DO NOT rub your wrist together!

  • Rubbing your wrist together does not allow the fragrance to develop correctly on your skin.  Allow the fragrance to dry, if you spray too much in one area, lightly dab the fragrance off with a wet towel or if able, lightly dab the extra fragrance on another part of your body.

Too Little or Too Much?

What is considered too little or too much depends on the person.

  • If you are unsure if a fragrance will be too strong, always start off light and you can adjust as you go.

Too much?

  • If you are choking on a fragrance as you spray it or constantly sneezing, more than likely, you have sprayed too much.
  • Pay attention to fragrances that smell strong before spraying.  When people say ‘Beast Mode’ this refers to a fragrance that needs minimal spraying and does not necessarily need to be layered with other fragrances. Beast mode scents have a sillage (projection) that everyone will smell, even after you have left the room.

Too Little?

  • If you have sprayed your fragrance and you do not smell it enough or feel as though it is not lasting long enough, you can spray more until you find the right amount.  Make sure you are properly priming your body and spraying clothes as well.
  • Another thing to consider, sometimes we have enough on, and we have gone nose blind. Nose blind is when you are wearing a fragrance but cannot smell it, yet people around you can.  As you wear more fragrances, you will learn which fragrances seem to still project to others, while seemingly being invisible to you.
  • Be mindful of fragrance potency.  Not all fragrances are meant for everyone to smell.  You may hear people refer to a fragrance as ‘close to the skin.’  This refers to fragrances that you can still smell, but the sillage (projection of a fragrance) is minimal to others.

Looking for a lighter way to wear your fragrance for the day?

  • One of our favorite things to do is to spritz a few sprays of fragrance in the air, and then walk into the mist of the fragrance.  This is also another way to give your fragrance a nice refresher without going overboard.

We’re excited for you as you grow your collection.  Stay connected with Nicole Cade as we give you more tips and tricks on how to make the most of your fragrances. Until then…

Break necks… not noses.
