What is layering?
Layering of fragrances allows you to intensify and/or create a scent that is unique to you.
What does layering involve?
Layering can consist of the following:
- Using a scented body wash, shower gel, shower oil of your choice
- Using a scented moisturizer, body balm, oil, cream, butter, or soufflé of your choice
- Spraying no more than 2 different perfumes that are complementary to each other. You can layer up to 3 times if you want to intensify a single note.
How you choose to use the products above is purely up to you and what you are wanting to achieve. Everyone is different, so you will learn as you go what works for you.
What scents should I use and how do I layer?
In the grand scheme of things, this is up to personal preference and what smell you want to achieve.
- To start you can go with a body wash/moisturizer that is close to the base note of the fragrance you are wearing.
- For instance: If you are wearing a fragrance with a base note of vanilla, a brown sugar body moisturizer or a sweet-smelling moisturizer would be complementary. The same would go if you are wearing a fresh fragrance, a citrus or fresh smelling moisturizer can be complimentary.
- If you want to intensify a single scent, let’s say our scent is a Floral - Rose, you could use a rose body moisturizer, then spray on your rose fragrance. If you want to kick it up a notch, get a body wash that smells of rose, moisturize with a rose scent, and then spray with your rose perfume.
- As you become more advanced, your nose will become the best guide to what and how you layer. You will start to become more creative and exploratory with the scents you use. For example, you may want to wear a scent that is of the Woody scent family, but you chose to prime your body using a floral or spicy scented moisturizer, creating a Floral-Woody or Spicy-Woody scent to your fragrance.
- Spraying Two Scents - You do not have to spray your two fragrances in the same place on your body! You can spray scent #1 on your neck and scent #2 on your chest, you will still get the same effect!
Do not be afraid to play around with your fragrances, this is where the magic can happen! You may not always get it right, but when you do, it will be rewarding!!
As always, break necks… not noses.
